A big part of cultivating a meditation practice is determining what works best for you! Included in that exploration should be exposure to a wide range of styles of meditation, from different voices. The metaphor is as simple as: we listen to a lot of music to see what resonates; we like to listen to certain genres/sounds in the morning versus the evening, and every so often our tastes may change or we stumble on something new that freshens up our repertoire.
I’m a big fan of the Ten Percent Happier app, and whenever offered, I partake in the Ten Percent Happier meditation challenges – to reinvigorate my formal practice, to meet new influences, and to commune. Whether you are looking to re-energize an existing practice, or to learn more about meditation, this would be a good (read “safe, gentle, only a bit awkward”) place to jump in.
This year, I’m asking that you join me as a cohort! We can encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and learn together. The 21-day challenge is done at your own pace, and each week for the three weeks, I will piggyback a free offering: a 30-minute chat (Fridays, 12pm EST) where you can bring your questions, curiosities, excitement, frustrations and skepticism. I may even throw in five or ten minutes of straight-up meditation education.
I’m not encouraging a “resolution.” I’m seeking here to help you get on track with your very worthwhile “mental hygiene” practice. Think less “I’m going to skydive this year” and more “I’m going to try brush my teeth each day.” (I’m here for you.)
